Wagstaff Crane acquires Bronson

Earlier this year Utah based Wagstaff Crane Service acquired tower crane sales and rental company Bronson Crane from founder Earl Bronson. Both companies are located in suburbs of Salt Lake City with Wagstaff in Murray and Bronson in nearby West Jordan.

The two companies have worked together for several years, having complimentary product lines. Wagstaff runs an extensive fleet of All Terrain cranes topped by a 750 tonne Liebherr LTM 1750, a modest crawler crane fleet topped by a 300 tonne Liebherr LR1300 SX, Rough Terrains up to 100 tonnes as well as with booms trucks and carry deck cranes.

Bronson on the other hand specialises in tower crane rental and has been a Potain self-erecting crane dealer since 2008 and the country’s top dealer since 2011. It runs an all Potain rental fleet of self-erecting and top slewing tower cranes.

The deal sees Wagstaff acquire all of the Bronson assets and business functions from owner founder Earl Bronson. Bronson Crane will continue to trade under its existing name but now operate from the Wagstaff building in Murray. The Bronson/Wagstaff operation is now also offering NCCCO crane operator training and certification at its premises.

Wagstaff was established in 1963 by H.R. and Evelyn Wagstaff with one small crane and a plan provide crane rental throughout the Rocky Mountain area. Today the business is owned and managed by Ron and Jim Wagstaff, with a good few other Wagstaff family members sprinkled throughout the business.

Earl Bronson said: “We are excited to join Wagstaff and look forward to continue to support our customers in their projects. We have worked hard to build this company over the years and develop this important market. We’re confident we’ll continue to grow with Wagstaff and expand self-erecting crane construction.”

Jim Wagstaff added: “For almost 60 years, we have offered the most complete line of hydraulic cranes in the Intermountain West. In that time, we’ve operated virtually every type of Manitowoc mobile crane there is. Now it’s time to expand our services even further by taking the logical next step and providing Potain’s tower crane offering, too.”
