Crane and platform fatality
One man died and another was seriously injured near Hanover, Germany, when a six tonne footbridge element being lifted into place dropped onto the platform of a spider lift.
The incident occurred on the 18th of May in Seelze, near Hanover, Lower Saxony. The two men were in the basket of a Teupen Leo 19T spider lift from the Bollmeyer rental fleet, and were observing the component as it was lifted onto the previously installed bridge support pillars. Something then went wrong, and the bridge element dropped from the crane and landed square on the platform’s basket.

One man was crushed directly under bridge section and is said to have died instantly, the other was seriously injured and was airlifted to a local hospital where his condition was said to be critical.
