Fatal fall in Illinois

A man has died in Illinois, following a 16 metre fall, when the platform of the aerial lift he was using became detached from the boom.

We have few details at this stage, apart from the fact that the man, Timothy Funk, 41, was working for Jenkins Display Company on the Motel 6 sign in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. He was using a bucket truck at the time and was apparently between 16 and 18 metres in the air when the platform broke away from the boom.

He was rushed to hospital and was later pronounced dead. Investigators from the Madison County Coroner's Office are leading the investigation, while OSHA has been notified and briefed.
