Make a bid to help

UK based International Platforms is to auction an aerial lift at Vertikal Days with all proceeds going to charity.

In the past year or two people have become increasingly aware of the growing problem of mental health issues in the construction industry, particularly among young men in the sector. In the UK the stark statistics from the Lighthouse charity show that two people working in the industry take their own lives every day of the year!

On learning of these depressing facts Vicki Allen and her team at International Platforms, decided to try and do something about it. As a result, they will sell a fully refurbished 26ft Genie GS-2632 self-propelled scissor lift via an online auction at Vertikal Days in mid-May, with all of the proceeds going to the charity’s link[https://www.lighthouseclub.org/help-inside-the-hard-hat/[(‘Help inside the Hard Hat’ programme) which provides emotional, physical and financial support to those working in construction and their families.

The team hope to have raised at least £5,000 for the charity once the online/in person auction closes when the show ends on May 12th.

Vicki Allen said: “I am fortunate to know a lot of people in the construction industry having spent almost 20 years in the access business. Unfortunately, I have become increasingly aware of the mental health problems some are having and had also heard about the good work the Lighthouse Club does. I decided the best way to help was to do something we are good at - selling a used platform - and then donating all the proceeds to the Charity.”

“To get the best possible price and contribute the most we can, I decided to do an online auction. Once I had the idea, I got out my address book and made a few calls to other industry experts who wanted to help. With the generous support of Genie, PAS Powered Access Services, Hire Safe Solutions and Avalon Metal Coatings I bought an eight year old Genie GS2632 electric scissor lift and arranged for it to be fully refurbished and serviced including a full repaint, new batteries, tyres and steps along with numerous other parts. It’s a great indoor access platform and has non-marking tyres making it ideal for second fix construction work, warehousing, cleaning jobs, electrical work, facilities management and stock taking.”

“Anyone interested in bidding for this machine can, if they win, be confident of getting a useful piece of equipment while supporting a very worthwhile cause.”

When the refurbishment is complete the machine will hopefully look as good as this

Bill Hill of the Lighthouse charity added: "We are delighted that International Platforms have chosen to support us in this way and hope that the industry will get behind the auction and help then reach some dizzy heights with their fundraising!"
