Biggest crane in Ecuador?
Ecuadorian joint venture company, Consorcio Noroccidental Atlas (CAN) has taken delivery of the first 600 tonne Tadano(Demag) CC 2800-1 NT to arrive in the country and is said to be the largest crane in Ecuador.
CAN is a joint venture between Transportes Noroccidental and Grúas Atlas each with more than 50 years’ experience in transportation and lifting projects. The crane was purchased through Tadano distributor Trex.
Launched in 2006, the CC 2800-1 NT - ‘Narrow Track’ - has a maximum system length of 175 metres with boom and fixed offset jib, while offering an overall travel width of just five metres - or 5.5 metres with the wider 1.5 metre track pads. Its quadtrack four motor crawler drive helps with precision turning and gradeability.

Once in position two massive fold down outriggers - one on each side - are deployed for a working width of 14.2 metres, while four jacks on the extended chassis - two on the front and two on the back - provide longitudinal stability. The net effect is to replicate the overall base dimensions of the regular CC2800-1 when working.

The new crane has been purchased for work on the construction of wind energy and other renewable energy projects. The company says that the Narrow Track version will improve (reduce) the civil work for the roads between turbine foundations.
General manager Edgar Andrade said: “This powerful equipment will engage in projects that promote the development of Ecuador and create local jobs, we are committed to support the growth of our country. With the addition of the CC 2800-1 NT, CNA has now the most significant fleet of specialised transport and lifting equipment to make possible key projects nationwide.”
Gonzalo Salazar of Trex Ecuador and Colombia added: “This type of machinery will complement the specialised equipment of CNA, and it will be installed and operated by specialised Ecuadorian personnel. As a Ferreycorp company, we are proud to affirm that this crane will add value to our customer’s operations and their contribution to the country.”
