Kalmar’s first electric heavy forklift

Austrian rail logistics service provider Innofreight Solutions has purchased the very first Kalmar high capacity heavy electric forklift - delivery is scheduled for the fourth quarter.

The electric machines will eventually replace Innofreight’s current Kalmar fleet of 60 diesel forklifts. Kalmar heavy forklifts offer up to 33 tonnes lift capacity at a load centre of 1.2 metres to a height of five metres. The unit has a 670 volt electrical system, with 345KW battery pack, providing up to 8.25 hours of work, but opportunity charging of 15 to 30 minutes every two to three hours can keep the battery pack topped up for working around the clock. The all up weight is 43 tonnes.

Managing director Peter Wanek-Pusset said: “If we are to achieve our target to be carbon neutral by 2040 it is essential that we start reducing our reliance on fossil fuels now. Kalmar is a long term partner and a leader in the field of eco-efficient electric equipment, so we are very pleased to be able to take this initiative forward together with them.”
