Bahraini marine operations group Al Jazeera Shipping has taken delivery of the first 400 tonne Liebherr LR 1400 SX crawler crane to arrive in the Middle East.
The new crane, shipments of which began in late 2021, was designed for easy transport and once on site is able to completely self-assemble with all pins hydraulically installed and locked. The tracks, which extend from 4.8 to 8.4 metres overall width, feature four motor drive - two on each track. A choice of fixed and luffing jibs up to 113 metres provide with a maximum system length of 178 metres. The crane control system also adjusts the load chart to cope with barge tilt angles.
The LR 1400 SX has already been booked for its first jobs, and starting out this month on several projects at the Bapco refinery in Bahrain.
Established in the 1970s, Al Jazeera Shipping runs a fleet of over 150 units that includes tugs, barges and other equipment. It also has its own 80,000 square metre plus marine fabrication yard to carry out the associated repair and maintenance jobs, with 300 metres water frontage adjacent to the Mina Salman Port area of Manama, Bahrain. It so has operations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Oman.
Managing director Ali Hasan Mahmood said: “We are proud to be the first company in the Gulf to receive the Liebherr LR 1400 SX. Hopefully more Liebherr crawler crane purchases are to come with the assistance and full cooperation from Liebherr, we form a great association."
