New spider lift rental company

A UK electrical services company has diversified with the opening of a new access rental business.

Dean Hobbs, the owner and managing director of HBS Electrical Services, has established a new business and associated company - HBS Access. Both companies are based in Walpole St Andrew, between Kings Lynn and Wisbech in Norfolk.

Hobbs started out as a self-employed electrician in 2002 and incorporated his growing business as HBS Electrical Services in 2018 to specialise in commercial and domestic installation, testing, inspecting and emergency lighting.

In recent years the business has become a regular user of aerial work platforms, and in particular spider lifts, as a result he took the decision last year to buy his own machine, a 22 metre CMC S22HD. Finding that there was considerable demand in the area to rent it from him, he took the decision to set up a separate access rental operation and added a second machine, a 23 metre CMC S23. The new model has an outreach of up to 12.4 metres and weighs 2,880kg.

“Last year we invested in a CMC S22HD access platform that has enabled us to diversify our work and explore new revenue streams, while having a more competitive price point for our services, increase productivity and react more quickly to emergency callouts requiring specialist, high level equipment,” said Hobbs.

“I have used many different spider lifts and chose the CMC range because they are the best fit for my business. They’re easy to use, have an excellent working envelope, and are competitively priced. They also fit perfectly on the TiMA trailers, which helps because we travel a lot. I bought a second machine because they are so reliable and because of the excellent after sales support I have received from Russell and Pete at CMC Lift UK”.
