System Lift's money buys fewer machines

System Lift - the German association of independent rental companies - has confirmed the total orders placed by its members during its annual four week buying window with franchise members spending a total of €53 million this year, similar to 2021. However their money purchased significantly fewer machines.

During the month, 70 System Lift member companies ordered 1,100 aerial work platforms, telehandlers and trailers, in addition to the purchases they made over the rest of the year. The orders are placed with the manufacturers who have offered the most attractive conditions for each product category.

In 2021 (no figures are available for 2022) the members spent 7.5% more at €57 million, but it bought them 45 percent more units - 1,600 machines in total. The average number of machines per company was 23 in 2021 (22.9) but only 16 in 2023 (15.7). The difference is of course down to a combination of larger, higher specified models but in particular higher prices.

Board member Christopher Friedrich said: “The aim of this year’s bundling was to expand the circle of participating manufacturers and thus offer our partners an even wider selection. That worked brilliantly. In addition to the manufacturers who were already there last time, other suppliers such as Magni, Multitel and Haulotte joined for the first time this year.”

Fabian Markmann, managing director of member company Liftkontor and head of the association’s purchasing committee added: “With this year’s purchasing bundling, System Lift has once again demonstrated the effectiveness of the association. In addition to an expanded product range, we were also able to negotiate absolutely top conditions for our partners.”

With total combined annual purchases of between €80 and €100 million, System Lift is one of the largest buyers of powered access equipment in Europe.
