Liebherr updates luffers

Liebherr has updated its mid-range luffing jib cranes range with the introduction of the 440 HC-L, based on its popular 357 HC-L, which it will replace.

The new crane comes in two versions, the 24 tonne capacity 440 HC-L 12/24 and the 36 tonne 440 HC-L 18/36 compared to 32 tonnes on its predecessor. Both models offer a number of performance improvements, including 5.8 metres more free standing tower height – now 76.4 metres and easier installation thanks to one central switchgear cabinet, and electronic components that are arranged in a plug-and-play set-up and a single block counter-jib ballast weight.

Other benefits include a tighter out of service radius – now under 11 metres – with the ability to handle loads as close in as four metres, while benefiting from higher capacities, including a 52 percent improvement in jib tip capacities on the longer 65 metre jib, with 4,450kg on the 12/24 and 4,050kg on the 18/36.

The new ‘Load Plus’ system, enables up to a 22 percent boost to lift capacities, at the touch of a button. The capacity on a 50 metre jib has been increased from 7.5 tonnes to nine tonnes. Tower heights have also been significantly improved: the free-standing height has been increased by up to 5.8 metres, the maximum assembly height (free-standing) measures in at up to. This makes planning climbing steps more flexible.
It is also the first Liebherr crane to feature aramid fibre synthetic pendant ropes, along with a number of other new materials.
