JCB to expand Indian plant (update)

JCB is investing Rs300crore (£34.4 million) in the expansion and modernisation of its existing plant at Ballabgarh in Haryana, India.

The expansion work is being carried out on an adjacent 16.74 acres plot of land previously owned by the Haryana Urban development Authority.

JCB India now has three manufacturing plants in the country, the other two plants are located in Pune, Maharashtra.

The foundation stone for the expansion project at Ballabgarh was laid by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on the August 14, in the presence of Matthew Taylor, chief operating officer of the JCB group and its head of manufacturing Alan Blake.

The expansion work which is expected to be completed by the end of 2008, is expected to create employment opportunities not only at JCB, but also with surrounding suppliers.

JCB claims to be India's largest construction equipment company and builds Backhoe loaders, wheeled loaders, skid steers and excavators in its three plants. It was the first Indian company to have built 50,000 units of equipment.
