The boom of a new 1,600 tonne crane installed on an Olsen Windcarrier wind turbine installation vessel knocked over a smaller harbour crane at the Navantia Ferrol shipyard in north west Spain in late November.
The jack up vessel was preparing to depart, after its new crane had been installed, and while slewing the boom into the stowed position it struck a rail mounted crane on the dock, knocking it over the edge an onto a barge. Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident. According to the managers at Navantia the incident was caused by a ‘calculation error’
