Another Belgian fatality

A man has died in Evergem on the north side of Ghent this week, after he became trapped between the platform he was working from and an overhead steel pipe.

On Monday, the man, 44, from the Netherlands was working as subcontractor to a company on the industrial estate in the town. When he became entrapped, he was brought down by colleagues and the emergency services apparently managed to resuscitate him, but he died a short while later from the injuries he sustained in the incident.

The East Flanders public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation.

This is the second fatal powered access incident in the greater Ghent area in a week. Last Wednesday a man, 46 was catapulted from the platform of a boom lift. See: Fatal boom fall
