Raimondi Middle East has deployed what it claims is the highest luffing jib crane in the region, with a 14 tonne LR213 operating on a 322 metre tower building a 75 storey residential building in Dubai.
The crane, which is rigged with a 50 metre jib and a 3.3 tonne tip capacity, has a maximum tip height in excess of 360 metres and is installed on a steel counterweighted base with 12 ties.
The LR213 replaced a smaller luffing jib crane when the building reached 100 metres in height, the mid project change over, as well as time pressures, obliged engineers to work within the existing foundation load bearing limits, rather than designing an all new foundation. The team employed a six by six metre counterweighted base on the previously installed foundation, and then removed ballast blocks as the crane climbed ever higher, and more ties were installed, in order to remain within the structural ground bearing capacity of the foundation.
The crane tower reaches 300 metres
Wael Hasan of Raimondi Middle East said: “The complexities of this deployment demanded an extraordinary level of innovation and adaptability, highlighting Raimondi’s expertise in addressing unconventional challenges. From redesigning the base configuration to recalibrating the collars, every step of the process reflected Raimondi technical proficiency and commitment to excellence.”
One of the tie in points
Raimondi adapted the crane's load chart to work at heights above 300 metres. The tower is made up of two long 11.8 metre sections and 100 shorter 2.95 metre sections, secured with 12 tie-in points spaced evenly up the building.
When the crane's work is complete the LR213 will be jacked down to 50 metres before being removed with a mobile crane.
