Five Liebherr for Transportes Crexell

Argentinian crane rental and logistics service provider Transportes Crexell has taken delivery of five Liebherr cranes, including Argentina's first electric crane which is aimed at the oil & gas industry.

The package comprises two 220 tonne LTR 1220 telescopic crawler cranes, a 150 tonne LTR 1150 telescopic crawler crane, a 250 tonne LTM 1250-5.1 All Terrain and a 50 tonne LTC 1050-3.1E compact crane.

The LTC 1050-3.1E features a 72KW electric motor and required control system, alongside the standard six cylinder diesel engine. The two power units use the same hydraulic pumps and the operator can switch between diesel and electric power for crane functions. Once on site, it ideally plugs into a 125 Amp mains power supply to fully match the performance of the diesel, but it also operates well enough on a 63 Amp supply. Alternatively, it can be plugged into a standalone remote battery pack. The company plans to deploy the electric crane primarily on urban construction sites and customer depots, where charging infrastructure is more readily available.

Transportes Crexell commercial director Eugenio Diaz said: "We want to offer our customers a low-emission carbon dioxide-friendly alternative for their operations. We opted for the electric version of the 50 tonne crane because it allows hybrid operation, is compact, and has ideal lifting capacities for the planned jobs."

"Since the electrification related to oil and gas industry services is still in an early stage, we want to help drive this development forward in Argentina with our expertise and equipment. As the infrastructure for electric machines is not yet available in the industry on a mass scale, the compact and manoeuvrable three axle crane will primarily be used on urban construction sites and in customers' depots."

Founded in 1997 and based in Neuquen, central Argentina, Transportes Crexell has operated in the oil and gas industry for almost 30 years. The company now runs a fleet of 99 cranes providing drilling rig transport and related services to the oil and gas sector, alongside crane operations and transport services for wind energy projects.

Editor,
Not to nitpick, but I think you missed a person in the caption of the handover photo.

However your articles and photos are always first rate, and I always look forward to reading/viewing them.
