German engine manufacturer Deutz has acquired Sobek group, a manufacturer of high-performance electric drives for specialised applications.
Sobek - which employs 70 at three sites in Baden-Württemberg and Hessen - operates in motor sports, aerospace, and medical technology. The company supplies high performance pumps based on its electric motors and control electronics, with customers including Formula 1 and Formula E teams. The acquisition aims to target the growing drone market.
Deutz chief executive Sebastian C. Schulte said: "Through Sobek, we can gain direct access to the rapidly growing defence market and make strategic inroads in this sector beyond the sale of conventional drive systems. Defence is rapidly evolving in the wake of new technologies and changes to warfare."
