Brogan acquires Sunbelt Hoists in UK

UK based mastclimber and hoist rental group Brogan has acquired the UK hoist business of Sunbelt Rentals UK.

The deal includes Sunbelt’s construction hoist fleet and associated equipment along with three dedicated locations in the Midlands and North of England and all Sunbelt staff associated with the hoist business. It will take the Brogan UK hoist fleet to just over 900 units, and the number of employees to more than 1,000- worldwide.
As part of the deal the two companies have signed a trading partnership which makes Brogan the exclusive provider of hoists for Sunbelt UK customers, while also offering Brogan customers easier access to Sunbelt’s other rental products.

Phil Parker chief executive of Sunbelt Rentals UK, said: "“This strategic decision aligns with our strategy to drive long term growth, foster innovation and deliver added value to our customers. By establishing a closer working relationship with Brogan, we are confident this will enhance service delivery and create lasting benefits for our shared customer base.”

Brogan chief executive James Brogan added: “The acquisition of Sunbelt Hoists is key to our strategic growth plans. The acquisition enables us to better serve projects in cities such as Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and Newcastle, as well as across Scotland and strengthens our ability to deliver access solutions at scale, offering clients premium equipment and service delivery.”

“In addition, it will boost our skills base, enabling us to support major projects internationally. Our long term trading partnership with Sunbelt will also unlock new opportunities that benefit both companies.”

The Brogan business was founded by James Brogan in 1988 after having developed a taste for the industry after working with a scaffold company as a summer job. During that time, he realised that the active outdoor work, as well as its earning potential suited him. After working with other companies for six years or so, he started out on his own and as the business grew persuaded friends and former colleagues to join him, allowing them to bid for larger jobs and win work from major blue chip contractors, doubling revenues almost ever year.

Brogan was also one of the first in the UK to move away from the traditional tube and coupler scaffold to System Scaffold, which was far quicker and easier to install and dismantle. In 2001 it opened its first overseas operation in Dublin, Ireland opening a depot in Vilnius, Lithuania the following year. In 2005 the company introduced mast climbers to its range, followed by hoists in 2006.

A major step came in 2009 when it opened in the Middle East with offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, since then the region has become an increasingly important part of the group’s business. In its lastest accounts on file, Brogan Holdings reported revenues of £44.6 million with a Pre-Tax profit of £5.5 million.
