Liebherr Ehingen's 50,000th crane

German rental company BKL Baukran Logistik has purchased the 50,000th crane to be manufactured at Liebherr's Ehingen facility, a 300 tonne LTM 1300-6.4.

The six axle, single engine crane – updated in May - features an eight section, 90 metre main boom topped by an 11.5 to 20 metre bi-fold swingaway extension, to which two seven metre inserts can be added between the boom nose and swingaway for a tip height of 121 metres. Other features include the Variobase Plus outrigger set up system, which offers a wider, more variable rear outrigger spread - up to 9.4 metres - as well as AutoBallast.

BKL managing director of technology, Robert Popp and Frankfurt site head Tizian Ochmann travelled to Ehingen to take delivery of the milestone crane, which replaces a 300 tonne LTM 1300-6.2.

Popp said: “We are delighted to be able to take delivery of this special crane. At the same time, we congratulate Liebherr on this further major milestone in its impressive company history.”

Ochmann added: “With its 90 metre boom, the new 300 tonne crane perfectly rounds off our line up in Frankfurt. The six axle crane is particularly well suited for inner city areas. With its long boom, it can, for example, assemble tower cranes without needing an extension. That will be one of its main tasks.”

BKL Baukran operates from nine locations across Germany, including Munich, Frankfurt and Hannover, with a fleet of more than 500 tower cranes, 130 All Terrain cranes from 30 to 700 tonnes and 30 mobile self-erecting tower cranes. Prior to the LTM 1300-6.4, the company’s latest addition was the MK 120-5.1E.

Liebherr Ehingen, established in 1969, delivered its 20,000th crane in 2006, its 30,000th in 2014, and its 40,000th in 2020. It was originally a subsidiary of the then sole proprietorship owned by founder Hans Liebherr. Mobile and ship crane production began that same year. The first 500 tonne plus crawler crane shipped in 1978, and from 1980 onwards, the company concentrated on mobile cranes, with ship, offshore and container cranes transferred to Liebherr Nenzing.

By the mid 1980s, truck crane production had fully switched to All Terrain cranes. Today, Liebherr Ehingen builds around 2,000 cranes a year.
