A first for Kranverleih Kunze

German rental company Kranverleih Kunze has taken delivery of the first 55 tonne Liebherr LTM 1055-3.3 All Terrain crane with a ballast trailer in the country.

The three axle LTM 1055-3.3, which was launched at Bauma last year and replaces an LTM 1055-3.1 in the company’s fleet. It features a 40 metre main boom plus an 8.6 to 15 metre bi-fold swingaway extension for a maximum tip height of just over 58 metres while also offering up to 40 degrees of offset. Features include the Liccon3 control system, VarioBase variable outrigger setup and remote control system, along with Ecodrive and Ecomode systems. The ballast trailer allows the crane to carry its full 11 tonnes of counterweight without needing extra transport permits.

The new crane completed its first job in Dresden, lifting 5.5 tonne hollow core precast slabs for the IMA materials research institute. The crane was on site for two days, including set-up and dismantling. A second job followed at a former waste to energy plant, where the LTM 1055-3.3 worked alongside a 120 tonne LTM 1120-4.1 to dismantle a chimney.

Managing director Dirk Kunze said: “The main areas of application for our new 55 tonne crane are industrial building construction, concrete and steel construction, as well as energy facilities such as substations. As the LTM 1055-3.3 will serve as a modern and versatile taxi crane for short and medium operations in future, it was essential that the overall concept fitted. We had to be able to move the crane and 11 tonnes of ballast without having to apply for additional driving authorisations.”

Based in Radeberg, north east of Dresden in eastern Germany, Kranverleih Kunze employs a team of nine people running a fleet of five All Terrains, tower cranes, city type All Terrains and loader cranes.
