Rambiz to salvage Napoli

The next phase of the salvage of the MSC Napoli is due to commence and Rambiz, one of the largest floating cranes in Europe, with over 3,500 tonnes lifting capacity, will be called in to remove the largest components.

If all goes according to plan, the salvagers hope to clear the remaining 8,300 tonne stern section by next Easter.

The Rambiz with its twin double booms

The work will be carried out in two stages, starting with the removal of the accommodation block, parts of the stern section, rudder and the preparation of the engine room for the engines' removal.

This is estimated to take 60 days, starting on November 4th.

Among the other equipment arriving will be specialist hydraulic cutting gear capable of cutting through 70 millimetres of steel.

The salvage of the hull has been delayed until the heav equipment became available.
