First ArticCrane City Luffer 180

UK crane rental company City Lifting has taken delivery of the very first eight tonne ArticCrane City Luffer CL180 luffing jib tower crane.
The new crane on its first job on a site in London

The new crane was installed for its first job this week on a very tightly constricted job site in Wilson Street in the City of London. The tower has been installed in the building's existing lift shaft and uses the same 1.7 metre square tower system as that used on Artic Crane’s 184 and 185 Raptor cranes.
The crane has a very small out of service radius

The crane can handle its maximum capacity at a radius of 26 metres, and take 2,000kg out to 50 metres.

Features include:
- Lockable slewing and jib for a 5.7 metre out of service radius. Higher free standing heights can be achieved if the crane is put into free slew mode, with a larger out of service radius.
- Twin brakes, motors and gearboxes on all motions/functions in order to provide full redundancy of safety systems.
- An additional safety PLC monitors all safety functions.
- ABB inverters providing smoother, more accurate and operator friendly controls.
The new, larger cab

Other practical features designed in at the start include:
- A small single fall hook block with low wind resistance to fit into narrow spaces, allowing the use of glass vacuum lifters and other equipment without needing to use a balance beam.
- A 2.5 metre minimum radius allowing lifting within 1.7 metres of the tower.
- Standard jib mounted camera and floodlights.
- Kevlar jib tie bars for lower jib weight, while being easier to handle for the crane erectors.
- A new, larger cab.
- Energy recovery systems on all lowering movements.
The crane is fully equipped with lights and camera for night work

Artic Crane was established in 2007 in the town of Lindås, Sweden, with a focus on the design and manufacture of articulated tower cranes, based on products that had previously existed but gone out of production. Artic says that it used the inherited knowledge to carefully develop new models, using the latest technology, starting with its Raptor cranes.

City Lifting is based in Essex on the East side of London, and runs a fleet of around 60 All Terrains, 20 mini crawlers and spider cranes and a fleet of around 150 tower cranes. It has been a champion of Artic Cranes since before the first Raptor was launched.
