A man was injured on Tuesday when a bus clipped the platform he was working from in Glasgow Scotland.
The man, 32, was using a van mounted lift, owned by street lighting and sign company Phoenix Specialist Solutions, to work on the street lights. But from video footage we have seen he was working with the fibreglass platform over the inside lane of the open road.

This was fine when it was just cars and vans passing underneath – not good, but drama free, but when Glasgow’s A7 double decker bus came along it made solid contact with the platform, splitting the basket open and throwing the man out. We understand but have not been able to confirm it that he was wearing a harness with a short, attached lanyard attached, which may have prevented more serious injuries or even death.
He was taken to hospital, where his condition was initially reported to be critical. We have been unable so far to obtain an update on his condition.
A Police spokesperson said: “Around 12:40 on Tuesday, August 18, we received a report of a man injured after a cherry picker was struck by a bus in the Baird Street area of Glasgow. The injured man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”
A spokesperson for the bus operator First Bus added: "We are assisting the police with its investigation into the circumstances that led to this incident. One of our services was involved in an incident on Baird Street in Glasgow earlier today, where the bus came into contact with a ‘cherry picker’ vehicle.”
“The emergency services attended, and we understand a worker operating from the elevated platform was injured and taken to hospital for treatment. We have no reports that passengers or our driver were hurt.”
