Big-5 PMV
The Big-5 PMV show opened this week to poor visitor numbers most likely caused by the split location, with the Big-5 show being held at the world trade centre and the new PMV section for equipment held at the Airport Expo exhibition centre.

Tower Cranes were much in evidence as you might expect
A larger number of exhibitors attended including Saez, Liebherr, RD Lift, Zoomlion, XCMG, Haulotte, Manitou, Unic, Maeda, Ritchie’s, IHI, ACE, Genie-Terex, UpRight, Sumner, S-Mac, Altec, Fixator, Platform Basket, Hek, Alimak, Yoke, Rapid Access, EasiUplifts, Bobcat, Merlo, Faresin, CAT, Ritchies Brothers, Teufelburger, Kobelco, IHI, Marchetti, AGS, WWA and numerous producers of ancillary equipment.
For the new Genie Middle East operation this was its first exhibition while Haulotte used the show as a platform to launch Haulotte Middle East. Fixator is also moving into the market with the posting of Radwan Salam to the region as Middle East sales engineer.

Ritchie Brothers held two auctions during the show, with a 2004 Grove GMT5100 selling for $890,000 while an early UpRight SB80 sold for $58,000.

One notable point at the show was the number of Chinese manufacturers out in force with large stands, crane producers included XCMG, which has sold over 1,000 mobile cranes in the region and has started to bring in its truck mounted aerial lifts, Zoomlion which has shipped over 100 mobile cranes to the region and Sany, which concentrated on its Concrete pumps.

Aaa crane, the Maeda, IHI and Marchetti dealer is unusual in that it now has a big new crane in stock, with the arrival of the 90 tonne Marchetti MG90.4 four axle All Terrain.

Japans number two aerial lift manufacturer S-Mac had a stand with three units on display as it ‘tested’ the local market as a first step towards stepping up its export efforts.

It displayed two compact truck mount telescopic booms and a 19ft elevator scissor lift, however the prices that it is currently looking for rule out any possible success.

Altec already sells its live utility lifts but is testing the market for its top of the line AC38-127S-HL boom trucks with fully fitted superstructure cab and 35 tonne lift capacity.
