Watch out for Wayne!

A Mr Wayne Fletcher opened an account with Capel Plant Holdings of Colchester in September, references and a credit check did not cause any concern and so 20 pieces of equipment ranging from mini excavators to dumpers, were delivered to various locations between September 28th and October 19th.

When the first invoices became due Wayne was nowhere to be found. Calls to the references yielded nothing and all the machines have vanished, rebadged with Fletcher Construction stickers.

Here are the details of exactly what happened in the words of Alistair Dovey of Capel Plant.

“The machines were delivered to the various addresses and all seemed well until invoices were due. We cannot contact him, or his references and I visited the delivery addresses where there was no sign of work or the machines.

I spoke to the farmer at Little Moor Hall Farm (one of the delivery addresses) who said that Wayne Fletcher had asked if he could leave some machines in his farmyard as they were working down the road and had a machine stolen. He saw him remove our stickers from the machines and replace them with Fletcher Construction stickers.

A transport company called Hallett & Silbermann were asked by Fletcher to move the machines from Little Moor Hall Farm to a sketchy address in Aveley Thurrock. He paid cash and the machines were taken to a pallet yard in Aveley and have not been seen since.

The owners of Elm Farm – H Green & Sons (another delivery address) did not see any machines being delivered but were asked by someone in September if they could leave machines in their farmyard as they were doing work up the road, but nothing came of it.

Through Top Service we have found out the same has happened to Edwards Plant & Tool Hire in Enfield.

I have reported everything to Colchester Police who have said that the CID is investigating. We wait to see what will happen.

Vertikal Comment

Beware of wise men bearing gifts comes to mind with this one.
It is shocking how people like this can still get with with such scams in this day and age.

I would be interested to know what Nat West Bank had to say about the affair.

One interesting fact is that Fletcher Construction nor any of the references appear to have a web site. This might have sounded the odd alarm bell after a quick search?.

Hopefully someone can finger Wayne and the long arm of the law will stamp on him.... I am not holding my breath.
