Worker killed by falling chimney

A worker thought to be operating an access platform died after being hit by a falling chimney. The man - Oliver Rutledge aged 61 from Omagh - was killed after he was struck by the falling bricks as he operated the platform at the site.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident at Main Street, Fintona in west Tyrone but Mr Rutledge was pronounced dead around 45 minutes later.

It is understood Mr Rutledge had only been at the site of the old Eccles Arms for a few days and was demolishing the last chimney on the premises.
The PSNI and HSE are both investigating the incident.
