Accident victim dies

The 28 year old man injured in Friday’s construction accident in Marriots Close, Witney, Oxfordshire, died from his injuries over the weekend.

The man, Altin Balla of Aberystwyth, mid Wales, was working from an aerial lift on the Simons Construction site when reports say that the machine tipped over and trapped him between the lift and steelwork.

The construction company and police have been tight lipped over the incident and workers on the site have been warned not to speak to anyone about the incident.

While reports say that the machine toppled, the injuries sound more like a case of trapping against an overhead beam. However all this is pure conjecture, we simply do not know at this stage but will endeavour to discover the details of what actually happened here, in case there are immediate lessons to be learnt.

If there are we hope that the HSE will issue a bulletin at the earliest possible time, rather than waiting two or three years while it decides whether to prosecute or not ..or until it comes out in an inquest in 18 months.
