Crane accident causes traffic chaos in Dubai

The boom of a crawler crane working on the Dubai Metro collapsed onto the Sheikh Zayed Road causing traffic chaos yesterday.

Two truck cranes were called in to remove the boom from the street

At this stage it is not at all clear what caused the accident in which the boom of the Sumitomo crane hit the stops and buckled over the rear of the crane.

The boom then came crashing down onto a sign gantry causing some damage, amazingly no one was injured.

Two telescopic truck cranes were called in along with a number of boom lifts to remove the boom, which was cut into sections and lifted back into the site.

The Dubai Roads & Transport Authority has opened an inquiry into the accident, which will include the inspection and test of all equipment used in the project. A statement also said that all operators involved are accredited and certified to use the equipment they were using.
