Winterlift acquires Yorkshire Crane

Winterlift the UK based crane rental company with locations in Manchester and Newcastle, has acquired Darnall, Sheffield based Yorkshire Crane Hire.

Yorkshire Crane hire, which is owned by Norman and Elsie Truman, was founded in 1986 and has a fleet of eight cranes, including an 80 tonne Demag and some city Type AT’s. Its sale is driven by the couples retirement, with Norman Truman having celebrated his 65th birthday earlier this year.

Yorkshire Crane's largest - an 80 tonne Terex-Demag

Winterlift was established in 1999 by its current directors Andrew Winter and Peter Winterburn and operates a modern fleet ranging from the 14 tonne Franna ‘pick and carry crane’ to the 250 tonne Liebherr LTM1250-6.1. The integration of the Yorkshire Crane Hire fleet will increase the number of units available for hire from Winterlift to 41.

The deal is a share purchase with Winterlift planning to combine the expertise and experience of both companies while adding additional geographic coverage.

Winterlift says that it will be investing in new state of the art equipment which will be available for hire from Sheffield shortly. The company has a largely Terex Demag fleet.

Andrew Winter said: “This acquisition will allow us to maintain and improve the service to all customers within the Yorkshire area. Winterlift has existing contracts within Yorkshire which will now be serviced from the new Sheffield base. Both Peter and I would also like to take this opportunity to wish Elsie and Norman a very happy and enjoyable retirement.”
