Bradford’s buys more Terex
William Bradford & Sons, the UK’s oldest chain of builder’s merchants, has taken delivery of nine new Terex loader cranes. The Yeovil based company, which was founded in 1770,
The company trades through two subsidiaries, Bradford Building Supplies which operates from 26 branches covering the South West, including Herefordshire and Worcestershire, and Bradford Timber Supplies which has nine branches and operates nationally.
The company has revenues in excess of £150 million, with most deliveries made by its own fleet of trucks, the majority of which are fitted with cranes.

The new cranes join 11 new units purchased in 2007, taking the number of Terex cranes in the fleet to 75. The new cranes are fitted to DAF 55’s and 65’s which are replacements for vehicles being retired.
The Bradford crane fleet ranges from the 6.5 tonne/metre 65.2 through to the 19 tonne/metre 190.2. However the majority of the fleet–over 80 percent- is made up of models 92.2 and 3008.2. Most of the cranes in the fleet are mounted in the traditional behind the cab position,
According to group transport manager, John Ponsillo, the attraction to Terex/Atlas was its “fast responsive service and good value for money”
“We wanted a product that matched our market, had a proven track record and was easy to maintain and repair. We do all our servicing in-house at Glastonbury and Crewkerne, so it’s important to us that the cranes are straightforward to repair, have parts that are readily interchangeable and, when necessary, that we can access the Terex service support network which, in my opinion, is the best in business.”
“Keeping downtime to an absolute minimum is essential and Terex recognise that fact. Another key issue is the design of the cranes themselves. They incorporate all the necessary safety features, but not in a way that constrains their day-to-day use or inhibits their manoeuvrability. We buy them to do a job of work and they do it extremely well and very reliably.”
