Death Wish 51

This one is unusual, in that it can be argued that the job has been properly planned and is based on sound risk assessments. Maybe not a Death Wish at all - see what you think.

Men working on Manchester's Trafford Centre

The photos were taken yesterday at the Trafford Centre in Manchester, UK ,the job involved is to replace light bulbs on the glass roof of a walkway. The men doing the work have rented two articulated booms and have cordoned them off with plenty of cones.

One of the men has climbed out of the platform and is working on the roof with a harness and an extended lanyard which his colleague is holding, but also looks as though it is attached to the cage.

One man out of the platform working on the lights

One think is that the lanyard is not only long, but it is a fall arrest lanyard and fitted with a shock absorber section, so that if this man did slip off the roof, it could apply a significant load to the platform which is already partially loaded.

Nearer the edge

In spite of reservations and some minor critique of the PPE equipment, this is probably the safest and most responsible method of carrying out this work. What do you think?
