Manitowoc unveils big crawler
Nearly 200 Specialised Carriers &Rigging Association members visited Manitowoc’s crane manufacturing facility in Manitowoc, Wisconsin recently to see the new 2,300 tonne Manitowoc 31000 crawler crane.

Nearly 200 SC&RA members visited Manitowoc on September 19th
The tour took advantage of the fact that the association’s annual Crane and Rigging Workshop was taking place in Milwaukee. Attendees toured the newly renovated 53,300 square metre (574,000 sq ft). plant as well as seeing the company’s largest crawler crane, the Model 31000, which is currently nearing completion.
Larry Weyer’s, executive vice president for the Americas region, said:” Despite the challenges we are all facing in the market, Manitowoc has been and always will be committed to producing cranes that help our customers be more productive and profitable. It was great to welcome so many familiar faces up to the facility.”

The partially completed Manitowoc model 31000
The 31000 was assembled without its boom on Manitowoc’s test pad. It is expected to be ready to begin testing towards the end of this year, with delivery scheduled for late 2010.
Main boom lengths will range from 55 metres/180 ft to 104 metres/344 ft. Various fixed jib setups will also be available, with a maximum configuration of 89 metres/295 ft of boom plus 101 metres/334 ft of jib.
Several other cranes were also on display including the Manitowoc Model 18000 and 2250 crawler cranes, a Grove GMK5115 All-Terrain crane, Grove RT760E Rough Terrain, Potain Igo MA 21 self erecting tower crane, and a Shuttlelift 5540F industrial crane.
