First Leo 40 GTX in Belgium

The first crawler mounted Teupen Leo 40 GTX spider lift was recently delivered to a customer in Belgium.

The unit was purchased from local distributor Gunco, by Verstraete, a utilities contractor that specialises in the construction and maintenance of overhead power lines in both Belgium and France.

Verstraete was keen to improve the working environment of their employees when working at height, cutting out as much climbing as possible. The problem is that many of the locations where they work are difficult to access for vehicles, Spider lifts can not only cope with the ground conditions and slopes, but the variable outrigger system can adapt to restricted spaces.

Another advantage is the lifts ability to climb stairs to work on different levels and to spread its weight over a wide area. The LEO 40 GTX also benefits from compact overall dimensions, non marking tracks and a low Gross Vehicle Weight for its height.

Verstraete says that it was keen for the new model to be delivered in November as it had lined up a number of jobs, including the installation of Christmas decorations at heights of up to its full height. Including a larger traffic roundabout in President Kennedy Square, Oostende.

The company plans to continue working on overhead power lines throughout the winter as long as it does not freeze too much. When it is not working on power lines , it will be used for a wide range of jobs, including work on flood lights in stadiums, where the ground bearing pressure is critical.

The Leo 40GTX was first shown as a prototype at APEX just over 12 months ago, it offers 400kgs of lift capacity, 16 metres of outreach, 23.5 metres of up and over reach and a variable outrigger width from 3.7 metres one side set up to five metres width..
