Self erector tips in Hawaii

A self erecting tower crane tipped over on Friday at Maunawilli in Hawaii, landing on a jeep occupied by two women taking out the local electricity supply. Thankfully no one was injured.

The crane, a Potain owned by Pacific Crane was being set up in the company’s yard when it went over. It landed on a Jeep Wrangler occupied by two tourists who had just returned from a hike and were about to drive off. Fortunately the Jeeps the bulk of the crane landed on the hood while the Jeep’s roll bar also helped save the two from any injury.

The crane’s fall also took out a utility pole, cutting power to homes in Maunawilli and Olomana and all local traffic lights.

The two women were able to crawl out through the vehicles windows and later on returned to their vacation.

Bailey's Crane Service was called in to remove the crane and arrived with a large boom truck, the tower crane had to be cut up in order to remove it from the street.
