AFI conducts first Push Around course

UK based AFI-Uplift has become the first company in the powered access industry to run the new IPAF training course for Push Around Vertical lifts (PAV).

AFI held the first PAV course yesterday when AFI trainer Pete Hazell trained six employees from Finlays of Hull, processors and suppliers of decaffeinated tea.

The half-day course has been introduced by IPAF in response to market developments and the need for appropriate training on this new type of machine.

Push Around Vertical lifts have no drive mechanism and are pushed around when lowered. Models include vertical mast type lifts and scissors and are manufactured by companies such as Genie, JLG, Pop-Up, Power Tower, Eazzi, Upright and Youngman.

Designed for up to eight people, the PAV course comprises a mixture of theory and practice and covers aspects such as safe operation, limitations of use, pre-use checks, inspection and function tests, setting up the PAV for work, manoeuvring, and start up /shut down procedures.

AFI general training manager Brian Parker said: “As a company at the forefront of access training, AFI is delighted to have become the first in the industry to operate the new PAV course. The introduction of the course highlights the growth in demand for these small, versatile machines.”
