Overloaded telehandler overturns

A 360 degree telehandler fitted with an aerial work platform over turned in the town of Châtellerault, to the north of Poitiers in central France yesterday.

It seems that the platform was being loaded with tiles from the roof that was being stripped in preparation for re-roofing, and had started to lower them to the ground when the machine, a 25 metre Merlo Roto went over. It was clearly overloaded with a platform full of tiles and the boom almost fully extended.

The telehandler was seriously overloaded and fortunately no one was hurt

The manager of the company on the project - roofing specialist Ets Duchenes - blamed the incident on a electronic malfunction causing the machine’s overload system not to cut out. The boom came down onto the cab of a truck and fortunately no one was hurt in the incident and damage was limited to the telehandler and the truck that the roofers were using.
