New scissors from Imer

Imer Access has unveiled its new 20 to 40ft IM90 Series of slab electric scissor lifts that replace the IT90 series.

Imer's IM-6390


The new range includes the almost 21ft IM-6390, the 27ft IM-8290, the 33ft IM-10090, and the 39ft IM-12090. All models are lighter in weight, feature a new chassis, new steering, hydraulic systems and controls a redesigned scissor stack for more height and greater platform rigidity, new easier to fold down guardrails and maintenance fee gel batteries as standard. The units are a little wider than the norm for this class of machine at 892mm compared to the more typical 820mm.

The new machines maintain the direct electric wheel drive motors of the IT90 range along with the longer deck extensions of 1.3 metres, compared to the usual 900mm and one metre extensions that are typical for this size of product, and yet they still offer the full platform capacity on the deck extensions.

The IM-8290


The 20ft IM-6390 has a platform capacity of 400kg, a working height of 8.3 metres, and weighs 1.6 tonnes as an indoor only machine - the outdoor version has a 350kg platform capacity and weighs over 1,900kg.

The 27ft IM-8090 offers 300kg platform capacity, with a working height of 10.2 metres and weighs almost two tonnes - the outdoor version has a reduced platform capacity of 230kg and weights 2.6 tonnes.

The IM-10090


The IM-10090 also has a 300kg platform capacity, a 12.1 metre working height and weighs 2.7 tonnes, while the IM-12090s is limited to 220kg, with an 11.9 metre working height. Both machines are for indoor use only.

Vertikal Comment

This new range from Imer looks first class in terms of performance and build quality, but there are some trade-offs in that they are too wide for many single doors - although to be frank it is damn hard to get an 820mm (32.2 inch) wide machine through most standard doorways, given that they are anything from 26 to 33 inches (660 to 830mm) wide before allowing for architrave and stops which reduce the opening still further. They will of course all go through standard 3.0ft/914mm doorways for those that have them.

Many will appreciate the direct electric drive, gel batteries and long unrestricted deck extensions. The big question for many buyers of course will be price, and given the massive variation in production volumes it will be a challenge for Imer to come close to the likes of Skyjack, Genie or Haulotte, not to mention Dingli.

But these machines will appeal to the buyer that wants something a little different that their particular customers will appreciate. such as the long decks and slightly more working height. They are definitely worth a closer look.

I understand your comment, and the opinion I gave was mine alone. Many of the independents have succeeded with the very policy you outline. Niche equipment at fair rates where there is a decent margin. The question is always choosing the right product and manufacturer that suits your portfolio. Interesting Vertikal this year, should be very rewarding!,,,

Every brand has to enter new territories anonymity is no reason not to invest, quite the opposite, given their desire to win new business smaller marginal brands are where you should be looking, not just for value but more importantly that quality and service you have built your reputation around, it's far easier to manage and support a few trusted and respected customers, the smaller manufacturers have far better specified kit, are easier to deal with and deserve exposure, if you want to differentiate you business, you need alternatives and innovation, not just sell height. Look to the margins, there's enough traffic in the middle lanes!

These are the challenges for the new Manufacturers, very much chicken and egg. They need to build up fleet to they can supply the necessary support. With many of the so called big players really screwing up service and making it very difficult to deal with them. But the fear factor is, and we have been burnt on this with our Easi lifts, the new suppliers are unable to support the product and the products become unreliable. We need new blood, but......

We, at Lifterz, like Iteco products. We run quite a few.
Pick the right items and you can have a bit of exclusivity and differentiation until the big producers join in.
We've found that the temporary uniqueness, direct electric drive, unrestricted deck extensions and drive at full height are the advantages, with price and uncertain UK residual values being the main drawbacks.
