Collapsed verge

A 500 tonne All Terrain crane was left partially blocking an 'A' road in Scotland yesterday, when the verge gave way.

The incident occurred on the A83 near Furnace, to the south of Inveraray. The crane, a Liebherr from the Whyte fleet, was rounding a corner on the narrow road which runs alongside Loch Fyne when it strayed too close to the verge, which then collapsed under its weight.

There are reports that the traffic lights seen in the photograph were already there and that the blockage might have been the reason for the crane being forced further over to one side of the road than the driver would have liked?

The stricken crane

The recovery will be challenging although the first concern was to stabilise the crane in its current position. We will update when we learn more.
UPDATE
The crane was recovered within a couple of days of the accident, and was able to drive away under its own steam see a video of the Click here to see the full story, including a video

Boomup
I've traveled that road many times and it is a terrible road in any crane, never mind in a 500! Roadworks with no warnings until your on them, timber trucks that don't even let of the throttle and tight bends with narrow bits in the road! Not the first incident on this road and defo won't be the last!
