CMPE introduces new UK Gold card scheme

The CMPE (Contractors Mechanical Plant Engineers) has chosen Commercial & Professional Qualifications (CPQ) as its preferred partner in the provision of NVQ’s to support a new UK Gold card scheme.

CPQ is a well-established provider of NVQ’s and other construction-based qualifications, with an enviable client list including numerous construction, plant and civil engineering organisations. CPQ has access to Train to Gain funding and is Matrix, Construction Awards Alliance, City & Guilds, CPCS and National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS) accredited.

The CMPE Certificate of Competence (CoC) for plant operatives has been available to CMPE members for many years and there are more than 20,000 holders of this proof of plant operating competency and experience. In response to requests from many CMPE members, the CMPE has strengthened and enhanced the existing CoC scheme and introduced the new Gold CMPE Competency Card.

Now, if a CMPE CoC holder or future applicant holds an NVQ – Level 2 in Plant Operations, the CMPE will be able to issue the operator with a Gold Card, which will stand beside the existing certificate, proving a greater level of skill and that the holder has been independently tested to nationally recognised standards.

Commenting on the partnership. James McClean, managing director of CPQ, said: “We are delighted to be working with the CMPE which is a much respected, nationally recognized association that has supported its members for well over 50 years. We are pleased that our training strengths and experience can improve the standing of an organization with that pedigree by enhancing their competency certification scheme.”

The CMPE was founded in 1957 and operates the original plant competency record scheme in the UK.
