The sun shines on Verticaaldagen

The second Verticaaldagen access, crane and telehandler event attracted a solid turnout from the Dutch access industry as the rain held off and the sun shone.

Verticaaldagen 2010 prepares to open the doors

Almost 40 exhibitors attracted just under 800 visitors from the Dutch crane and access rental industry along with a few large end users. Several companies chalked up a number of unexpected orders for new equipment.

The IPAF hospitality tent

IPAF combined its booth with a hospitality tent near the entrance, it is a credit to the organisers and the Federation that most exhibitors demonstrated good practice with harnesses widely used – an major achievement in Holland – and almost, if not all outriggers employing mats/spreader plates.

The new Mec Titan 40S fresh from Elevarte in Spain was the a star exhibit close to the entrance and shown in JLG/Riwal colours alongside a large number of JLG booms, scissors and telehandlers and a Mec electric RT Speed level.

An unusual exhibit that attracted a good deal of attention was a Komatsu LC08M-1 mini crane. While no longer in production the 800kg crane sported a range of impressive features for its size including a 5.1 metre all hydraulic boom and hoist with 43 metres of cable storage.

A rare Komatsu LC08M mini crane

With an all up weight of 1,590kgs, the crane can quickly lift off its hydraulically extendable counterweight to reduce the overall weight to a tonne. Tracks extend from 850mm to 1,580mm for more stability. The unit operates on batteries and AC mains power and can lift its 800 kgs at a 1.8 metre radius.

Another notable point was the number of units on display from Chinese manufacturer Dingli. Its aluminium mast self-propelled lifts were sown on a number of stands in different livery. Faraone Netherlands showed a twin masted 14 metre unit.

Alp Lift which imports Airo scissors and booms has now taken on the Dingli scissor lift distribution for Holland and Belgium. The two units on show a classic 20ft narrow and 26ft/46inch models looked impressive. The quality and finish was as good as any Chinese built scissor lift we have seen to date. Alp Lift says that the landed costs is substantially lower than that of other scissor lifts.

On the telehandler front Heli showed the Guerenuk 500, an impressive glass manipulator attachment for telehandlers – totally independent of the telehandler it is battery powered and operated by remote control, It features a short side shift mounted telescopic boom that luffs through almost 180 degrees, a short articulated linkage ads further control, while two rotators add a wrist action to the vacuum frame.

Kraan en Truck Service, the SMC – Sup distributor showed one of 18 CMC new truck mounts ordered by rental company Boels. The order, which follows six units that the company ordered last year, includes: four TB200 articulated booms, 10 PL 210/212 straight telescopics and four PL190 straight booms.

Other companies reporting sales included AllLift Michielsen which took an unexpected order for three GSR truck mounts and Eurosupply.

Ruthmann too the opportunity to launch its new TB270 and TBR200 models in Holland

Whether there will be a Verticaaldagen 2011 remains open, the initial plan was to skip the APEX year’s although we understand that a number of the exhibitors would like it to go ahead still. The organisers say that they will put it to a vote and let the majority decide.
