Lyte moves into new plant

UK based Lyte Ladders & Towers will be relocating to a new production facility next week.

The new facility is on the Swansea Enterprise Park near the M4 motorway, the company has been operating from its current plant in Ystradgynlais – to the north east of Swansea for 10 years.

The company which produces, a wide range of ladders, step ladders and alloy scaffold towers employs 100 people expects that the move will help secure existing jobs, while creating new job opportunities as it develops its manufacturing operations.

Lyte says that it plans to become one of the UK’s largest suppliers of access equipment and will be looking to expand its range of products to the UK and international markets.

John Greene the company’s managing director said: “this is a fantastic opportunity to continue to develop our manufacturing operations on a new site. Lyte has an on-going commitment to optimise our manufacturing and production facilities with a view to increasing the company’s market share in existing and developing markets.”

“This will not only secure the future of the company but that of its employees as well”.

Lyte was founded in 1947 and plans to develop the old site in Ystradgynlais, Green said: “We will not leave behind a semi derelict facility, we want to see a good quality development that also provides the existing community with new jobs”.

The investment in this new factory bucks a trend which has seen companies on the industry downsize or transfer production overseas to countries with lower labour costs.

Lyte says that it plans to develop new manufacturing processes that will put it at the cutting edge of the industry. This includes investing in new product development and the creation of a manufacturing productivity centre of excellence.

The new location will also include Lyte will also provide a PASMA Tower and Ladder training facility.
