Genie Industries reduces staff by 450 people
Genie Industries has announced that it will reduce its workforce by 450 people “in the face of uncertain economic conditions affecting its customers”.
The company will reduce staff by 18 percent, eliminating 450 jobs, immediately. The positions affected will be in the administrative, customer service, and manufacturing areas across Genie’s operations, located in Washington state and around the world. Most of the positions affected are in the US, but Genie Germany has lost three staff members while in the UK four jobs are to go.
“We value every member of our team at Genie and regret that we must take this action,” said Bob Wilkerson, president. We’ve taken a number of expense reduction steps to avoid layoffs, but this action has proven necessary given the challenging business climate we’re experiencing.”
Employees whose jobs are eliminated will receive a package of benefits and out-placement services to assist in their transitions, Wilkerson said.
