New HMF (UK) dealer makes first sale

Danish-based loader crane manufacturer HMF (UK)’s new strategy is paying dividends. The company has realigned prices, reorganised of its own sales force and appointed its first authorised sales and service dealers.

First companies to sign-up were Halesowen-based dry freight bodybuilder Bevan Group and South East Cranes of Walton on Thames, Surrey.

Bevan is promoting HMF cranes to its own, extensive customer base. South East Cranes, meanwhile, operates its own fleet of 30 crane trucks through sister company BR Saunders Transport and is now covering southern England for HMF. HMF (UK) says that the name of a dealer to cover the Midlands will be announced shortly and it it also in negotiations with potential partners in Scotland.

First HMF sale for South East Cranes was to West London ‘heavy side’ merchant George Lines. The 17 tonne/metre HMF 1720-K2 is mounted on a 32-tonne Volvo FM chassis and is the subject of a rolling contract hire deal with South East Cranes’ sister company BR Saunders (Transport).

Based in Colnbrook, near Slough, George Lines has been supplying civil engineering groundwork products such as kerbing, paving, gullies, manhole rings and associated castings for more than 50 years. The new truck is the company’s first eight-wheeler for many years, and is being used to make deliveries to civil engineering and local authority sites.

The 1720-K2 has two hydraulic extensions with a maximum reach of 8.3 metres and is fitted with a Fielden brick and block grab.

“It’s the biggest crane we’ve ever operated and offers impressive lift and reach capabilities,” says transport manager Eric Russell. “These are still early days, of course, but it also looks exceptionally strong and well-built, and is very nicely finished too.”

The new crane benefits from HMF’s Environmentally-friendly Quality Coating. Applied in a purpose-built, £12 million plant opened last year at the company’s headquarters in Højberg, this advanced treatment provides a good-looking, hard-wearing surface able to withstand years of arduous use without flaking or rusting.

HMF has also unveiled two new loader cranes - the 38 tonne/metre HMF 3820-K and 47 tonne/metre HMF 4720-K – each with up to eight hydraulic extensions and maximum reaches of 8.2 to 21.4 metres.

Both feature HMF’s user-friendly RCL 5300 Safety System, which prevents overloading and thus protects both the crane and operator. They can also be optionally specified with the latest dynamic version of the company’s pioneering EVS (Electronic Vehicle Stability) system – this calculates the extent to which the load on the back of a truck can also serve as a counterweight, thus allowing the operator to maximise the loader’s capacity while eliminating any risk of the vehicle toppling. The two new cranes are finished with the new Environmentally-friendly Quality Coating which will be introduced in phases throughout the HMF model range.

“These are exciting times for our business,” declares HMF (UK) sales and service manager Andy Rigby. “Not only do the loaders offer unrivalled build quality, they also represent the ‘cutting edge’ in terms of technology.”
