Man falls from tower crane

A man fell around 50 to 60 metres to his death in Plymouth, Devon, after breaking into the site on Thursday night.

The man had apparently managed to climb over the security fence and then up the tower until he was just under the cab, he then moved to the outside of the tower before dropping into the yard below.

The man had been seen climbing the crane and the emergency service called, Police officers were at the scene when the man either fell or jumped. They had cordoned-off the site and an ambulance was standing by, while the fire service was on its way when the man fell.

The man has been identified and is thought to be in his 30s. A police spokesman said: "We can't say at this stage whether exhaustion or cold played a part in his death."
