Fatal scissor lift accident

One man died and another is seriously injured after a scissor lit went over at a steel mill in Indiana earlier today.

Very few details are available at this time, but we understand that two men were working from the lift at an Alleghany Ludlum Steel plant in New Castle, Indiana and were around 40ft/12 metres up when something caused the lift to fall.

The men were doing maintenance work in the plant and were working on overhead crane at the time. One man was declared dead at the scene, while the other was airlifted to Indianapolis hospital where he is reported to be in serious condition.

Vertikal Comment

Scissor lifts don’t just collapse, but we have absolutely no indication what happened here. There have been a number of accidents over the past two years involving overhead cranes and scissor lifts. In two cases the crane has been inadvertently travelled and pushed the lift over. There is no indication that this is what happened here.
