Cargotec container competence in Singapore

Cargotec, owner of Hiab and Kalmar is to establish a global competence centre for container terminal development in Singapore.

The company has operated in Singapore for more than 30 years and employs around 450 people there, representing Hiab, Kalmar, MacGregor and Bromma, it is also home to a production facility. Its other Asian production units are located in China, India, Korea and Malaysia.

Cargotec says that by establishing a competence centre close to customers in Singapore, it will strengthen its ability to provide total solutions for its container terminal customers in the whole Asia-Pacific region.

Cargotec chief executive Mikael Mäkinen said: “Customer perspective is at the core of our strategy. In order to better understand customer needs, Cargotec needs an extensive geographic presence and tight collaboration with local customers, partners and other stakeholders. Singapore is one of the world's largest ports and it offers a unique view to customer trends, requirements and future needs for research, development and engineering purposes. Our strong presence in Singapore will further enhance our possibilities to develop more customer-driven solutions for future needs."
