Eagle rebirth
Jim Haigh junior has re-entered the UK powered access market after selling up and then personally leaving the industry 12 years ago.
Eagle Platforms was a significant player in the UK access industry in the 1990’s and was acquired from its owners Jim Haigh senior and junior by Hewden Stuart in 1997.
Haigh junior has decided that the time is now right for to re-enter the powered access market, a new company also named Eagle Platforms Ltd – the original company was dissolved by Hewden in 2009 – has therefore been established with its operational base in Sheffield.
The new company brings together some names from the original Eagle operation, including Don Horsley and Joanne Burgin. They are joined by Yvonne and Tony Abrahams. The new venture has also been helped by £50,000 of funding from UK Steel Enterprise, a division of Tata Steel.
The company has sourced a range of new machines from Niftylift and Skyjack, with dc and RT scissor lifts up to 35ft, articulated booms up to 51ft rounded out by 45ft straight telescopics. The company has also moved into premises on the Dore House Industrial Estate in Sheffield.
Talking of the new business Haigh said: “We were always driven by top quality and service, attracting business from companies as diverse Meadowhall shopping centre and the filming of Coronation Street. I believe that with the advent of tighter HSE legislation in relation to working at height there has been a phenomenal increase in demand for safe access from scissor lifts and booms.”
“The Eagle team is back with additional services including new and used sales, service, and operator training as well as a first class hire operation”
