Boom lift tips in California

An articulated boom lift overturned on Saturday in Folsom, near Sacramento California.

The unit was being used by painters working on the outside of medical offices near the local hospital.

The lift, an electric powered 40ft articulated JLG boom, went over backwards and injured two people, one of whom was in the platform when it went over, a man who is in critical condition in hospital. The other is a female co-worker who was on the ground at the time and is less seriously injured.

The fallen boom lift

The lift tipped when the operator started to drive while fully elevated, with the boom landing on a pick up trck and striking the co-worker.
We have no further information on incident and it is not obvious what caused it to happen.
