New Holland withdraws telehandlers

New Holland has announced that from 2012 its North American business will focus on compact equipment and in doing so will withdraw its heavy products, including telehandlers, from the North American market.

This change only affects the North American market, the company will continue to offer its telehandlers, heavier excavators, dozers and graders in all other markets around the world.

While a little unexpected, this announcement is not surprising, the Fiat owned company which can trace its heritage back to Allis Chalmers and Fiat Allis struggles to market and support a full line in a market dominated by Cat and Komatsu and a number of bother local players.

The withdrawal of its telehandler line will have a negligible impact on the market, so no great reason for any competitors to celebrate. While it has a significant presence in some markets for its heavy equipment, one wonders how important it feels the construction related telehandler business is to its future market strategies?
