Manitou stretches top of MHT range

Manitou has added to the capacity and height of its 16 tonne MHT 10160 and 21 tonne MHT 10210 heavy lift telehandler models, to create the MHT 10180 and MHT 10225.

The new models offer a maximum lift capacity of 18 and 22.5 tonnes respectively and both have a maximum lift height of 10 metres. In almost all other respects they are the same as their smaller cousins, with 5.5 and 5.87 metres maximum outreach and a 175 four cylinder Mercedes power unit.

The company says that the new models will be ready for shipment in the first quarter of 2012 and that they are particularly well suited to the needs of the mining and quarrying industries.

The new products were announced today at the SAIE show in Bologna today, along with the news that Manitou’s Italian subsidiary MCI (Manitou Costruzioni Industriali) will be renamed Manitou Italia and be responsible for all Manitou brands including Gehl and Mustang.

The business, headquartered in Castelfranco Emilia, employs 250 people and builds Manitou’s MRT range of 360 degree telehandlers along with its MHT high capacity models. The company says that the change will have no effect on the Italian company’s objectives or organisation, which includes 80 local dealers and partners throughout Italy.

Manitou president Jean-Christophe Giroux said: “We’ve always been proud of our Italian teams who have built a spectacular success. The Italian-developed product ranges are the flagships of our Rough Terrain Handling division and have repeatedly set industry standards which we’re now leveraging with our ‘New Business’ initiative.”

“We are also establishing a stronger market presence in Italy, in construction of course but also agriculture and industry. The Italian market is highly challenging, with lots of specificities and diversities which we perceive as opportunities to further grow our footprint and success. Forza Manitou Italia”
