Harsco wins more work at US power plant
Harsco Infrastructure is adding scaffold project management to the work it is already doing at the Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center clean burn power plant construction project.
The 585-megawatt carbon capture compatible, clean-coal powered electric generation facility is located on a brownfield site near St. Paul, Wise County, Virginia and is said to be one of the cleanest coal-burning plants ever built in the United States.
The contract for Dominion Virginia Power is now likely to have generated revenues of around $25 million by the time it is completed early next year, making it one of Harsco Infrastructure’s key North American projects for 2011-2012

Harsco was selected for the project by the Shaw group, the project’s engineering, procurement and constructor, to perform an independent analysis of the project’s optimum scaffold requirements and associated labour productivity. As a result its role of providing scaffold access services has expanded to include scaffold project management over a work force on site of 375 certified scaffold erectors, with over 2,000 access platforms erected.
Robert Ball, Shaw’s project manager said: “Harsco Infrastructure’s partnership with Shaw has contributed to productivity and cost savings. While its commitment to safety has added to a safe work environment and culture on site.”
